Al F. Brueggemann Obituary (1937

Al F. Brueggemann, age 77 of Breese, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. Mr. Brueggemann was born on January 3, 1937, in Bartelso, Illinois, a son of Bernard and Louise (Wegman) Brueggemann. He married Elizabeth Wiegman in 1960 at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso and she survives in Breese. In addition to his wife, Mr. Brueggemann is also survived by his children - Cathleen Mulina and husband David of Fishers, Indiana, Brian Brueggemann and wife Cori of Breese, Barry Brueggemann and wife Melinda of Carmel, Indiana and Kyle Brueggemann of Breese; his grandchildren - Caitlyn James, Robby James, Will Mulina, Maggie Brueggemann, Anna Brueggemann, Bennett Brueggemann, Evan Brueggemann, Elana Brueggemann, Grant Toennies, Mason Toennies and Zander Brueggemann; a brother - Bernard C. Brueggemann and wife Georgetta of Bartelso; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents - Bernard and Louise Brueggemann; his mother and father-in-law - Al and Eleanor Wiegman; a grandson - Andrew James; and his siblings - Clara Athmer, Mary Rita Hilmes, Joseph Brueggemann, and Mary Lou Bowman. Mr. Brueggemann graduated from Aviston High School and studied finance at Kaskaskia College. He proudly served in the 3rd Infantry of the United States Army. Al enjoyed several years working with his father-in-law and brothers-in-law at Wiegman Ford. He then worked at First National Bank and Trust in Centralia, and retired as Vice President of First National Bank in Carlyle. He was appointed as treasurer of the City of Carlyle, and held that position for 15 years. Mr. Brueggemann was a member, Past Grand Knight and Past Deputy Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Carlyle and was a school board member and president of the Bartelso Grade School. In 1999, he was appointed to the Board of Review of Clinton County, and had served as chairman of the board until this year. Al was also a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Beckemeyer American Legion, and a member and past president of Mater Dei Fathers and Friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery in Bartelso. Visitation will be held at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M., and on Wednesday morning from 8:00 - 9:30 A.M. The Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary in Al's memory on Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at St. Mary's Church. Memorial donations in his memory are suggested to a memorial at Hannah's Playground, All Saints Academy or to Mater Dei High School and will be received at Zieren Day Funeral Home.
