Alphonse W. Pollmann Obituary (1929 - 2013)

Alphonse W. Pollmann, age 84 of Carlyle, entered into rest on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. Mr. Pollmann was born in Bartelso, Illinois, on March 13, 1929, a son of Bernard and Anna (Hofter) Pollmann. He married Dorothy H. Beckmann in Bartelso on September 1, 1953, and she survives in Carlyle. In addition to his wife Dorothy, Mr. Pollmann is also survived by his children - Sharon Hustedde and husband Dennis of Carlyle, Deb Litteken of Aviston, Danny Pollmann and wife Robin of Pocahontas, Duane Pollmann and wife Brenda of Bartelso, Joyce Deerhake and husband Doug of Carlyle, Laurie Kohnen and husband Dennis of Germantown, Judy Pollmann of Carlyle, Randy Pollmann and wife Lee Ann of Bartelso and Jeannie Fulkerson and husband Tom of Mt. Vernon; a special family friend - Twyla Berry; 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters - Mary Ann Maue of Breese and Dolores Huelsmann and husband Marcellus of Beckemeyer and his in-laws - Margaret Pollmann of Beckemeyer, Christine Beckmann of Germantown, Eleanor Lengermann and husband Tony of Highland, Alice Wellen and husband John of Highland, Lucille Loepker of Breese and Alvin Beckmann of Bartelso. He was preceded in death by his parents - Bernard and Anna Pollmann; a son-in-law - Tom Litteken; brothers - Bernard and Vince Pollmann and his in-laws - Margie Pollmann, Joe Maue, William and Frances Beckmann, Frank Beckmann, Vince and Rita Hemker and Wendell Loepker. Alphonse previously worked at the St. Louis Ford Plant and was also a hog and grain farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1951-1953, including 18 months of service in Germany. He was a member of St. Mary's Church; Knights of Columbus Council 1382, Carlyle; Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227, Beckemeyer; and the Clinton County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed playing cards, Saturday night dances and aggravating his grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 8:00 - 9:30 A.M. The family suggest memorial donations in his memory be made to St. Mary's Church or to the charity of the donor's choice and they will be received at Zieren Day Funeral Home.
