Bruce J. Weber Obituary (2012)

Bruce Jeffery Weber, 61 of Keyesport, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at his residence. Bruce was born on August 19, 1950, in Chester, Illinois, a son of Dolores and Harry Weber. His love of the outdoors, dogs, and fishing began as a young boy. On his 17th birthday, he was enlisted in the Army and received basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Following boot camp, he was assigned to Germany until his deployment to Vietnam, where he experienced the horrors of war and the loss of many friends in combat. He received the following recognitions for his service to his country: Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman's Badge and three Army Commendation Medals. The effects of the war created painful memories and flashbacks as he suffered anxiety and panic attacks. After several years, he enrolled in a posttraumatic stress disorder program at the Providence VA Medical Center in Rhode Island. Following hospitalization, he participated in community service, continued classes to earn his high school diploma and enrolled in culinary classes at the university. Due to PTSS, he was again hospitalized and forced to withdraw from his classes. He enjoyed living in the Connecticut/Rhode Island area and developed the love of nature, birds, fishing, blues music, eating fresh seafood and developed lasting friendships. Survivors include his mother - Dolores Kuhn; siblings - Sue, Linda, John and Steve; a brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry; his step-father - Norbert Kuhn and a nephew, Alex Weber. At the time of his death he took with him his beloved dog and best friend, Katy. Mr. Weber was honored with a graveside service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with full military honors accorded.
