Carl J. Huels, Sr.

Carl J. Huels, Sr. was born on February 7, 1926, near Carlyle, a son of Paul J. and Elizabeth (Hempen) Huels. He married Helen E. Holtgrave on June 8, 1948, at St. Anthony's Church in Beckemeyer, and she preceded him in death on January 10, 2006. Mr. Huels was a livestock and grain farmer, and worked several years for Clinton County Farm Service. He was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso, K of C Council 4745, Bartelso; Clinton County Farm Bureau, and the Young At Heart Club. Carl J. Huels, Sr. died on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Aviston Countryside Manor in Aviston. He was 85 years of age. Mr. Huels is survived by his children - Mary Jane (Jim) Richter of Breese, Ruth (Jim) Jansen of Albers, Carleen (Jim) Haselhorst of Carlyle, Carl (Geri) Huels, Jr., of Bartelso, Louise (Jim) Strieker of Bartelso, Marcel (Vicki) Huels of Hillsboro, Missouri and Karen (Tom) Gerdes of Bartelso; 22 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 9 step-great grandchildren; sisters - Catherine Von Hatten of Breese, Olive "Dot" and husband Ed Becker of Breese; brothers - Matt (Rita) Huels of Carlyle, and Eddie Joe (Nancy) Huels of Carlyle; in-laws - Betty Huels of Carlyle and LaGarda Holtgrave of Beckemeyer; many nieces and nephews, and his caregiver for 5 years - Janice Huelsmann. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son-in-law - Gary Carillon; mother and father-in-law - Louise and Martin Holtgrave; siblings - Sr. Joette Huels, P.H.J.C., Louis Huels and Paul Huels and wife Aggie; and in-laws - Adolph Von Hatten, Paul and Betty Holtgrave and Walter and Marcel Holtgrave. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, June 3 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso, with Fr. Jim Boester, celebrant. Interment will follow in St Cecilia Cemetery.
