Dan T. Jansen Obituary (1943 - 2011)

Daniel "Dan" Theodore Jansen was born on May 19, 1943, in Breese, Illinois, the son of August and Theodolinda (Voss) Jansen. He married Lucille "Lou" Holtgrave on July 10, 1965, in Aviston, Illinois and she survives. Dan was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves from 1964-1970. He retired from AT&T in 1994 after 30 years of service. For the last 17 years, he owned and operated Dan Jansen Phone Systems and Repair. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Carlyle where he helped to run the CYO basketball program for 24 years. He was also a CYO Moderator for 10 years and served on St. Mary's Parish Council as a member and chairman. Dan was a hunter, fisherman and avid coffee drinker. He was a founding member of the 4 O'clock Coffee Club. He loved to watch his grandchildren in all their activities and spend time with his family. Daniel "Dan" T. Jansen entered into rest on May 18, 2011, at his home in Carlyle surrounded by his loved ones. He was 67 years of age. In addition to his wife Lou, Mr. Jansen is also survived by his children - Brian Jansen and wife Lori of Carlyle; Shelley Kenow and husband Kevin of Albers; his grandchildren - Andrew Seiffert and fiance Andrea Dudley and her son Aiden, Brittany Seiffert, Brandon Jansen and Violet Kenow; his mother - Theodolinda "Linda" Jansen of Breese; 10 siblings - Sister Linda Jansen, SSND of St. Louis, Virgil Jansen and wife Diane of Carlyle, Judy Huelsmann and husband Arnold of Trenton, Helen Jansen of St. Louis, Mary Jane Williams and husband Chris of Independence, Missouri, Gary Jansen of Breese, Patrick Jansen and wife Gay of Breese, Philip Jansen of Canton, Georgia, Susan Wagner and husband Dennis of Belleville and Tim Jansen of Charleston, South Carolina; his sisters-in-law - Marilyn Fitzgerald of Plant City, Florida and Joan Lehrter of O'Fallon, Illinois; and his brothers-in-law - Robert "Bob" Holtgrave of Highland, Illinois and Vern Holtgrave of Breese. He was preceded in death by his father, August Jansen; two brothers at birth - Leroy and August Jansen; his in-laws - Alphons and Clara Holtgrave, Margaret "Peggy" Holtgrave, Elizabeth "Betty" Holtgrave and George Lehrter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, May 23, 2011, at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. His ashes will be interred at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle on Sunday, May 22 from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. and on Monday from 8:00 - 9:30 A.M. Memorial donations in Dan's memory are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to St. Mary's Catholic Church and will be received at Zieren Day Funeral Home.
