Elaine M. Grapperhaus Obituary (1953 - 2013)

Elaine M. Grapperhaus, age 60 of Carlyle, died on Friday, December 13, 2013, at her home following a brief illness. She was born on July 30, 1953, in Breese, a daughter of Edward and Florence (Kreke) Dumstorff. She married Eugene Grapperhaus on June 23, 1972, in Breese, and he survives in Carlyle. Also surviving are her children - Angela Blecha and fiance Shane Wetherholt of Wheeler, Illinois; Gene (Kristen) Grapperhaus of Church Hill, Tennessee and Ryan Grapperhaus of Carlyle; 5 grandchildren - Anna, Sarah and Johnathan Blecha, and Jordan and Caleb Grapperhaus; siblings - JoAnn (Anthony) Seiffert of Carlyle and Donald Dumstorff of Breese; in-laws - Brenda Dumstorff, Alvena (George) Kauffmann, Mary Ann (Jerry) Harris, Virginia (Terry) Hammond, Irene (Francis) Detmer, Margie (Ron) Huelsmann, Rita (Gene) Jurgensmeyer, Frank (Carole) Grapperhaus, and Paul (Kathy) Grapperhaus and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents - Edward and Florence Dumstorff; brothers - Richard and Larry Dumstorff; mother and father in-law, Eugene and Helen Grapperhaus; and brothers-in-law - Ray Schroer and Bill Grapperhaus. Elaine was a C.N.A. for VNA -Carlyle, and a Special Ed teacher's aid at Central High School in Breese for 24 years, where she was also on the Prom Committee for many years. She also helped cater weddings and celebrations in Clinton County. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Carlyle. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 16 at St. Mary's Church with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at Zieren Day Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., and Monday from 8:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. For those wishing to honor Elaine with a memorial, the family suggests memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois. A luncheon and reception will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Carlyle following the committal services.
