Elbert G. Lyons Obituary (1933 - 2009)

Elbert G. Lyons was born on December 20, 1933, in Madison, Illinois, a son of Cecil and Helen (Marino) Lyons. He married Betty McMillan on October 25, 1955, in Granite City and she survives in Carlyle. Mr. Lyons was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. He worked as a millwright at Granite City Steel and was a member of Steel Workers Union, Local 30 in Granite City. He was also a member of the Eagles in Granite City. Mr. Lyons moved to Carlyle from Granite City and had been a full time resident of Harbor Light Bay for 14 years. Elbert G. Lyons entered into rest on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at his residence in Carlyle. He was 75 years of age. Mr. Lyons is also survived by a son - Elbert Lyons, Jr. and wife Delia of Dyer, Arkansas; 2 daughters - Truely Shipp and husband Daniel, Sr. of Forestel, Missouri and Kenny Muller and husband Joseph of Granite City; 9 grandchildren - Taya Knapp and husband Scott, Daniel Shipp, Jr., Kenly Taylor and husband Kelly, Lee Johnson, Joie Walk and husband Joel, Karissa Mance and husband Scott, Amanda Penrod and husband Derick, Elbert Lyons, III and wife Crista and Jeanie Lyons; 8 great grandchildren - Henry, Ella, Ellie, Kelsi, Kayli, Tyler, Jaylee and Aden and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother - Donald Lyons and an infant sister. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 31, 2009, at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Steve Sommerer, officiating. The family will greet family and friends from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Friday. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Lyons are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church and will be received at the funeral home.
