Fern D. Kelso Obituary (1924

Fern D. Kelso, age 89 of Carlyle, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Carlyle Healthcare Center. Mrs. Kelso was born on November 19, 1924, in Macks Creek, Missouri, a daughter of Soud and Lula (Green) Dowell. She married Cecil R. Kelso on July 11, 1944, and he preceded her in death on May 16, 1992. Mrs. Kelso is survived by a son - Steve Kelso and wife Mary of Beckemeyer; a daughter - Joyce Knolhoff and husband Rev. Wayne of Fenton, Missouri; a daughter-in-law - Diana of Marion, Illinois; her grandchildren - Stacey Horst and husband Scott, Chris Kelso and wife Pam, Kevin Kelso and wife Tina, Kelly Kelso, Jeremy Knolhoff, Jennifer Benson, Joanna Sell and husband Allen, Jamie Unger and husband James and Bret Kelso and friend Lori Nolan; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law - Rilda Kelso of Lebanon, Missouri and Ramona Russell of Hampton, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents - Soud and Lula Dowell; her husband - Cecil R. Kelso; a son - Dale Kelso; and 2 sisters - Helen Stuber and Hazel McMillan. Fern was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle, where among many other things she helped organize the Matthew 25 Food Pantry. She retired as assistant cashier from First National Bank in Carlyle, and was involved in her children and grandchildren's lives. Mrs. Kelso enjoyed life as a resident at the Carlyle Healthcare Center for the past 10 years. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, August 29, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle, with Rev. Keith A. Michaels, officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle on Thursday, August 28, 2014, from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M., and on Friday, August 29, 2014, from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Kelso are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and will be received at the church or at Zieren Day Funeral Home.
