Jonathan Carl Vogel Obituary (2010)

Jonathan Carl Vogel (age 56) of Bethesda, Md. Died of kidney cancer on October 30, 2010. Jon was proud of his 3 children, Eleanor (Nora), Hannah and Max; he was a devoted husband to Betsy Falloon, and he was an accomplished physician-scientist. He is the son of Elvira (Vera) and the late Martin Vogel of Posey. He is survived by siblings Rick Vogel of Chicago, Kay Krebs of Arlington Heights and Lyn Kampwerth of Edwardsville; beloved nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. He leaves many friends, colleagues across the world, and a host of younger scientists to whom he was a valued mentor. Jon was born and raised in Carlyle, IL. He received his MD from Rush Medical College in Chicago, completed internal medicine training at Washington University in St. Louis, and began his research career at NIH, where, other than 3 years on faculty at the American Red Cross, he worked until his death. Funeral services are at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 7730 Bradley Boulevard, Bethesda, MD, where Jon was an active member, on Monday Nov 1 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association at www.kidneycancer.org.
