Matthew J. Bretz Obituary (2013)

Matthew J. Bretz, age 78 of Carlyle, entered into rest on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle. Mr. Bretz was born on March 2, 1935, in Belleville, a son of Matthew F. and Helen (Germain) Bretz. He married Marge Weckman on June 2, 1956, in Belleville, and she survives in Carlyle. Mr. Bretz is also survived by a daughter - Cindy Van Winkle and husband David of Carlyle; a son - Dr. Craig Bretz of Sullivan, Illinois and his fiance Karen Glenister of West Sussex, United Kingdom; a daughter-in-law - Sandy Bretz of Carlyle; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents - Matthew and Helen Bretz and a son - Dr. Matthew W. Bretz. Mr. Bretz was a part owner of Belleville Pattern Company in Belleville. In 1988, he moved to Carlyle where he owned and operated Bretz Pattern Company. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Carlyle, was currently serving as Irishtown Township Trustee and also volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Bretz was a lifetime member of the N.R.A. and was also a member of Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who loved his dogs. In keeping with Mr. Bretz's wishes, there will be no funeral services.
