Mildred A. Diffenauer

Mildred A. Diffenauer was born on July 27, 1915, in Carlyle, a daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Wilken) Ortmann. She married Leo W. Diffenauer on August 27, 1936, and he preceded her in death on November 23, 1970. Mrs. Diffenauer was a member of St. Elizabeth's Church in Granite City. She worked as supervisor of the laundry department at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City for 26 years. Mildred A. Diffenauer died on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at her residence in Granite City. She was 95 years of age. Surviving is a daughter-in-law - Jane Diffenauer of Glen Carbon; 3 grandchildren - Deanna Koelpien and husband Greg, Vicki Hopkins and and husband Shawn and Molly Kimbley and husband Chad and 4 great grandchildren - Jordan, Kayla, Emily and William. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son - Leo W. Diffenauer on August 18, 1997 and a sister - Zelma Shirmer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Day Funeral Home on Thursday morning 9:00 - 10:30 A.M.
