Nelda Zieren Obituary (1922 - 2007)

Nelda M. Zieren, age 84 of Carlyle, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at her residence. She was born in Steelville, Missouri on October 23, 1922, a daughter of Leo and Virginia (Hopkins) Menestrina. She married Paul Zieren on February 12, 1944 at Great Lakes Naval Station, and he survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters -- Judy Shaver and husband Larry of Breese; Julie Wooters and husband Dave of Brentwood, Tennessee; a son -- John Zieren and wife Nancy of Carlyle; 3 grandsons, Brad Zieren, Andrew Zieren and wife Michelle and Adam Zieren and wife Lisa; 3 granddaughters -- Jennifer, Erin, and Kelly Wooters; a sister, Norma Green of Lexington, Kentucky and a brother -- Harry Menestrina and wife Mitzie of Anderson, Indiana. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother -- Don Menestrina and his wife Sophie and a brother-in-law -- Gus Green. Nelda moved to Carlyle from Nashville, Illinois in 1940, and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the church choir, the Clinton County Historical Society, and several ladies bridge clubs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 2, 2007, at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle on Sunday from 3:00 7:00 P.M. and on Monday from 8:00 until 10:00 A.M. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Nelda are suggested to the Clinton County Historical Society, St. Mary's Church, or the donor's favorite charity and will be received at the funeral home.
