Selma B. Koch Obituary (1921

Selma "Semmie" Koch, age 93 of Beckemeyer, died on Friday, April 11, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. Ms. Koch was born on January 15, 1921, in Beckemeyer, Illinois, a daughter of Fred and Martha (Dorries) Koch. She attended Beckemeyer Public School, graduated from Carlyle High School and attended Rubicams Business College in St. Louis. During World War II, Selma ran Koch Lumber Company in Beckemeyer with her father. After her family sold the lumber yard in 1975, she worked for Bruemmer Lumber as a bookkeeper. Selma was the bookkeeper for Motel Carlyle and Koch Farms. She enjoyed knitting, reading, traveling and hunting arrowheads at the family farm. Ms. Koch was an excellent baker and loved riding horses, especially her dad's horse, Corky. Ms. Koch is survived by her sister - Elsie Koch of Carlyle and 2 nephews - Donald and David Koch. She was preceded in death by her parents - Fred and Martha Koch; and her siblings - Martha Koch, Doris Ranz and husband Amel, Richard Koch and Herbert Koch and wife Violet. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Breese, with Pastor Matthew A. Goetz, officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Breese. Visitation will be held at Zieren Day Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and at St. John's United Church of Christ in Breese on Wednesday from 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. Memorial donations in memory of Ms. Koch are suggested to St. John's United Church of Christ or to the American Heart Association and will be received at the funeral home.
