Urban Kampwerth Obituary (1921

Urban Henry Kampwerth, age 84 of Greenville and formerly of Carlyle, died on Monday, October 16, 2006, at his residence in Greenville. Mr. Kampwerth was born on November 17, 1921, a son of Gerhard and Josephine (Rakers) Kampwerth. He was born in Aviston, Illinois and resided most of his life in Carlyle. His first marriage was to Frances Schneider on May 2, 1944, and they had 3 children Judy, Richard and Janice. His second marriage was to Dorothy Thorman with 2 stepchildren. On March 28, 1992, Urban married Alberta Williams of Greenville which gave him 6 more stepchildren. Urban worked at the Beckemeyer Smelter for 17 years. He was an excellent salesman and sold International Harvester for Holtgrave Implement in Breese and later Allis Chalmer farm equipment and GMC trucks for Seiber Implement and Gebke Farm Supply of Carlyle. After retiring, he served 10 years as Director of Clinton County Civil Defense. He served in World War II with the military police. He was a member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau and Holthaus/Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227 of Beckemeyer. Urban was a member of the Carlyle Christian Church and was active in the Men's Prayer Breakfast group and served as a greeter and Deacon in the congregation. He was an avid camper and a very civic and community-minded person. Urban enjoyed people and loved his family. In addition to his wife Alberta Kampwerth of Greenville, Mr. Kampwerth is also survived by 2 daughters Judy Morris and husband Charles "Charlie" of Camdenton, MO and Janice Altadonna and husband James "Jim" of Centralia; a son Rick Kampwerth and wife Lynn of Greenville; 6 step children Sherron Breehne of Naples, Florida, Donald Williams and wife Diane of Williamsport, Indiana, Kay Wilson of Ottawa, Illinois, Gay Adcock and husband Terry of Greenville, Tina Petty and husband David of Lincoln, Illinois and Robert Williams and wife Jackie of Yorkville, Illinois; 5 brothers Joseph Kampwerth and wife Agnes, Cornelius "Buddy" Kampwerth and wife Sally, Frank Kampwerth and wife Lucille, Roland Kampwerth and wife Rosemary and Gerald Kampwerth and wife Linda, all of Carlyle and 2 sisters Mrs. Leonilda Diekemper and husband Ray and JoAgnes Beckemeyer, all of Carlyle. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 26 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Herman and Norbert Kampwerth; 2 sisters Sr. Veronica Kampwerth and Regina Seiffert and a granddaughter Mrs. Shannon Wynn. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 19, 2006, at Carlyle Christian Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Carlyle. Friends may call at Zieren Day Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday at the church from 9:00 A.M. until service time. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Kampwerth are suggested to the Carlyle Christian Church Building Fund or to Bond County Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
