Valerie S. (Deiters) Colex Obituary (2012)

Valerie S. (Deiters) Colex, age 37 of Collinsville and formerly of Carlyle, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Valerie was born on April 1, 1975, in Breese, Illinois, a daughter of Edward and Jeannie M. (Buehler) Deiters. She married Edmund Mendoza on August 9, 2012, in Destin, Florida and he survives in Granite City. Also surviving are her parents - Edward and Jeannie Deiters of Carlyle; 3 sisters - Angela Martinez and Kristie Randolph of Collinsville and Jaime Mendoza of Carlyle; 3 brothers - Brian Deiters of Oceanside, California, Eric Deiters of Highland, Illinois and Stephen Deiters of Glen Carbon, Illinois and her dog, Fi-Fi. She was preceded in death by her grandparents - Lloyd and Flo Ann Buehler and Herman and Catherine Deiters and a brother - Bradley Deiters. Mrs. Colex was a registered nurse and director of nursing at Caseyville Nursing and Rehab. She previously worked in the burn unit at St. John's Mercy. Valerie was awarded the Florence Nightingale Award from Abbott Ambulance in August of 2012 and the Heroes in Long-term Care Award from the Illinois Council of Long-term Care. She loved landscaping, antiques, shopping and camping. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 19, 2012, at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle on Thursday, October 18, 2012, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Friday, October 19 from 8:00 - 9:30 A.M. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Colex are suggested to the American Cancer Society and will be received at the funeral home.
